Arlene Receives Cleo Curtis Award

The 2006 recipient of the prestigious Cleo Curtis Award was Arlene Smith.

The person chosen this year is a very talented IADCCT member and artist and has been ceramicing for over 50 years. Like many of us her mother got her hooked at the ripe old age of 9. She did stray from ceramics for a while concentrating on family and her rapidly rising business career. She became a CDT in 1992 and joined IADCCT in 1993 and became a studio owner whilst also still working her business career. She became a Duncan Ambassador in 1995.

This person has really made a lasting impression….she has served on the Board of IADCCT….Convention Registrar…then elected to the position of Convention Director…went on to being elected Secretary and held that position for four years. Four years of publishing the IADCCT newsletter….maybe you have been bugged by her for articles. During many of these years she still worked and also had her own studio, taught Duncan seminars and held the position of President of her own Chapter.

Throw in the fact that this person is a very talented artist is one of the most generous people with not only of herself but her knowledge and time…

She has been nominated by her Chapter the Southern Stars

In her words “Being a Duncan Ambassador has given me the opportunity to meet people, visit some great places, and hopefully, leave a lasting impression of my love for the industry.”
