Musette Receives Cleo Curtis Award

The 2013 recipient of the prestigious Cleo Curtis Award was Musette Young.

Musette has been fully immersed in ceramics for 30 years, as a production potter and teacher, as well as seeking out classes to improve her knowledge and skills. She became a certified Duncan teacher in 1983, and very quickly started teaching ceramics in Colorado Springs. She became a member of IADCCT in 1998, and has attended every convention and nearly every regional offered since then. She became a Duncan Ambassador in 2000. She has taught at regionals, retreats, convention added education, and convention classes. She has also assisted other regional and convention teachers in developing classes for those events.

Musette may refer to herself as a production potter, but the reality is that a very large part of her work is teaching. She has taught throughout the western United States, as well as some select locations in the eastern US, Canada, and Australia. With regularly scheduled classes in Colorado, Arizona, Oklahoma, and Kansas, and other classes in Wyoming, Washington state, Oregon, California, Nevada, Louisiana, Florida, Calgary Canada, Sydney Australia, and Adelaide Australia, Musette is clearly a traveling teacher who reaches many and varied students, averaging over 70 classes each year.

Musette has been instrumental in forming two IADCCT chapters. She has served in multiple chapter officer and IADCCT board positions, and has been a member of more Chapters than you can throw a stick at.

With all of this, and her continuing involvement in ceramics and IADCCT, Musette is truly deserving of the 2013 Cleo Curtis Award.
