Cathy Housley Receives the 2020 Cleo Curtis Award

Tonight's recipient of the Cleo Curtis Award is an outstanding spokesperson for the world of ceramics. In the mid 90's, she was the second member in her state to join IADCCT, starting right off attending the Annual Meeting and Convention in Las Vegas. To date, she has only missed a couple of these events.

As more CDTs followed, it didn't take long before a Chapter was organized. In this new Chapter, she showed leadership and shared ideas and efforts toward chapter events and added education. This Chapter became a team of "Doers and Getting it Done" which also showed in their growth. Over the years she served on the Chapter Board in the capacity of Treasurer and President. This lady also joined another Chapter which was formed in the state and as a Charter member, she lent support to this new group for the years that they maintained their Charter. For the past 10 plus years, she has also been a member of the Rocky Mountain Chapter. In 2005, she became a Duncan Ambassador and a member of the Ambassador Chapter, serving as Treasurer and as Secretary.

This talented, motivated and caring person has attended Regionals and Retreats sponsored by different Chapters and has taught at many of these events. She is creative in introducing new ways of using products, materializing new techniques and always willing to share ... she is a favorite instructor. She has been instrumental in designing and teaching classes at Convention three times, twice as part of a Team-Teaching effort and one solo. The support she gives to her students and the support she gives to her Chapters and IADCCT are so indicative of the caring person that she is.

She has taught not only in her own state but has travelled to other states to teach Duncan classes. She loves what she does, and it shows as ceramics is truly in this Lady's blood. Always positive, always with a smile or a laugh, this lovely lady is so very worthy of this award.
