Hospitality Night and Awards Banquet by Pat Lackey & Arlene Smith
Each year our convention seems to get better and better, and this year was no exception. Of course we all come for the great education that is offered, however, it is also a time when Chapters and Members receive recognition for their achievements during the past year. The Awards Banquet has become a highlight, the entertainment is always welcomed, but the Awards are truly special.

Our dearly loved Fred Rowley kicked off the event by leading us in prayer which was followed by a great dinner and a wonderful desert (NOT APPLE CRUNCH). All first time attendees were called upon and were presented with a beautiful ceramic hand made butterfly. After each received there gift, Arlene Smith, President of Southern Stars Chapter, explained the likeness of "Butterflies and CDT's". This year there were 19 first time attendees, one more than last year. Can't wait to see how many first timers next year.

The Quarter Century Club had 4 members present and then welcomed Elaine Tinnen, from Washington into the group. She was presented with a lace doiley coursage and the Quarter Century pin. Joyce Wright, Chairman of the Educational Showcase Committee, presented awards for accomplishments to members the Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond achievements. The two new Chapters were introduced, Florida Flamingos and Oklahoma Rose Rocks. Awards were given for the Spotlight competition, with Best of Show going to Grace Georgian of Oklahoma. This years President's Award went to Marie Rhodes for her outstanding help during the past year. Marie does not know the word "No" and has aided the Board in so many different areas. The highlight of each Hospitality night is the presentation of the Cleo Curtis Award. This year our most prestigious Award of IADCCT was given to Trish Gill from Australia. A very deserving Lady, who has contributed so much to IADCCT and to the Ceramic Industry around the world. Desert Rose Chapter served as Chairman of the Hosting Chapters this year. With their coordinating, the Chapters participated in furnishing the table favors and centerpieces for the Banquet. They arranged for Michael Holly, Entertainer Extraordinaire to end our evening with fun and laughter. And that it did. Another sheet in a journal of a successful evening.

Good food, great camaraderie, wonderful awards, and fun entertainment is what it was.

Education:
The education offered at convention is always the best. We completed great projects taught by Sylvia Clayton, Nancy Kincaid, David Hoff, Sharon Kinzie, Pamela Alexander, Trish Gill, Larry Knight, and Muriel Thompson. We are proud to boast that five of these great teachers, Sylvia, David, Trish, Larry and Muriel, are our very own members!

Added Education Pre Convention Classes
We were very fortunate this year to be able to offer our members four pre-convention classes. The projects were all great and it was really hard to have to chose.

Saturday AM-Sylvia Clayton from England kicked off the education. Our project was a Poinsettia design painted on a dinner plate using hobby Colorobbia Bisque Strokes.

Saturday PM-Nancy Kincaid taught a wonderful snowman design on tiles, using Mayco Colors. When the piece is fired it is placed in a wooden tray.

Sunday-David Hoff's class consisted of two pieces with wonderful designs that taught you how to complete the entire design using a #4 liner brush.

All the pieces and projects were wonderful which made choosing which seminar to take difficult.

An Evening of Make 'N Takes Arlene Smith
Thanks to all of you who participated in our Sunday Evening Make 'N Take Event.

It is because of all of you that this event, once again, was a great success. Thanks to all those Chapters who volunteered to sponsor a table and have members from their chapter as the instructor for the evening this year. I knew we had some really creative and talented people in our chapters.

Thank you to our participating Chapters:

Aussies Down Under
Desert Rose
Golden Poppies
Mountain Bells
New England Clam Diggers
Oklahoma Dreamcatchers
Rocky Mountain
Saguaro
Southern Stars
White Rose

We had good representation from across the globe, and as I thought, we have some hidden talent in our Chapters!!!!

Added Education Post Convention Classes
Wednesday was the "Eye of the Tiger" with Sharon Kinzie. She was using Smack Dabs and teaching Realistic Eyes. Sharon is one of the most talented teachers of our time. Students always find her seminars fun, informative and the pieces are always great.
